At present, monopump is usually used as the OWS feed pump.

The higher working pressure, the worse separtation effect. So some bilge pumps are fitted after the OWS and keeep the OWS in vaccum status.

Oil with low density is difficult to be separtated.

Proper heating is helpful to oil separtaion, but too high temperature will cause emulsion. Electric or steam heater is often fitted in the top oil collection chamber of the OWS, used for cleaning or heating when the oil viscosity is high.
